The "JAMES OLIVER COMPUTER WRITING CENTER", is a relaxed environment where you can work with Microsoft Office 2000 applications or run interactive CDs from classes.

The Computer Writing Center was created in 1988 by the English Department to facilitate that process by helping students do college level work in English while improving their GPA. By giving students access to computers and assistance using them, the students can gain critical writing skills that are essential to being successful in a college or university environment.

The Writing Center works with Project Bridge and the ESL department; it offers a supportive teaching and learning environment with a variety of services that are matched to individual student needs.

We are committed to serving Laney College students from Language Arts courses as well as across the curriculum. We also serve the faculty, staff, and the larger community.

Faculty members who are interested in either scheduling or having their classes use the lab are directed to contact the Lab Coordinator, David Mullen, at 464-3157.

So come on down to room E-257 and put that brain to work.

AN ASSET TO YOUR EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS

The mission of the PERALTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT is to provide accessible, high-quality adult learning opportunites to meet the educational needs of the multicultural East Bay Community.

The staff is very helpful and pleasant and wants you to SUCCEED with your school work.

We at the Computer Writing Center believe that students can help themselves; students can help each other; tutors, instructional assistants, and teachers, of course, help students. In other words, teacher-centered learning is only one of many effective modalities used in the lab.

Our most important "tools" in the Writing Center are the people who work here and the students who work with us. The Writing Center seeks out well-balanced candidates who have backgrounds in computers and the lab's software and also have good communication skills and experience in tutoring and/or customer service. The current staff of the Writing Center was selected for their unique skills to carry out the lab's mission and has evolved into a dedicated, organized team.
